What is a Labiaplasty?

The term Labiaplasty describes the surgical technique used to lessen the length of the Labia Minora. It is the most commonly performed Vaginal Rejuvenation technique and solves the problems associated with the unpleasant twisting, tugging and pulling of a enlarged Labia during vigorous activities, including sports or sex.

Why Labiaplasty?

To alleviate discomfort, injury or embarrassment, associated with a large Labia.

What does a Labiaplasty do?

The objective of this procedure is to decrease the overall size and length of the Labia Minora, so that it no longer protrudes or hangs below the (hair covered) Labia Majora. A Labiaplasty may also be performed to decrease asymmetry or when one side of the Labia is longer than the other. It is also performed with the goal of stopping pulling or tugging during sports or sex and eliminating the chance of becoming visible while wearing swimming attire or form-fitting apparel.

Which Anesthesia is used for Labiapasty?

Labiaplasty is possible with either local anesthesia (with oral sedation) or under general anesthesia, depending on the course of treatment recommended by your Plastic Surgeon.

Labiaplasty Methods

The most common Labiaplasty is a method of “trimming” where additional tissue is removed and the incisions cleanly sutured closed. There is also the “wedge” method in which the patient retains a small fringe or border of tissue after a small pie-shaped piece of tissue is removed- Additional folds of the clitoral hood can also be reduced at this time and healing is made more comfortable with absorbable sutures.

Recovery from Labiaplasty

Most patients take 7–14 days off work. Healing can be helped, pain and swelling reduced, by placing a small ice pack under the treated area, between the patients underwear and a flexible piece of clothing, i.e. Spandex, Yoga Pants, etc. Icing should be done 20 minutes on, followed by 20 minutes off. The patient can lie with her bottom raised (on a pillow, etc.), to reduce swelling. Patients can resume wearing tampons or engaging in sports and sexual activity after about 4- 10 weeks. A “trim” Labiaplasty usually offers a faster recuperation than the “wedge” method. While most of the swelling and tenderness is gone after a month or so, it may take up to a half year for the desired result to take shape.

What is the result from a Labiaplasty?

Labiaplasty creates a shorter more functional and aesthetically pleasing Labia, that won’t hang down below the hair of the Labia Majora. Most patients who have experienced pain or discomfort from a Labia that was twisted, tugged or pulled during vigorous activity or sexual contact, are helped by this relatively easy procedure. Statistically speaking Labiaplasty patients experience a very high rate of satisfaction, with over 90% of patients surveyed happy with their results.
